One of two projects created as part of a commission from The Atlantic Philanthropies in association with the Magnum Foundation. The aim of the commission was to document the impact of The Atlantic Philanthropies funding in Ireland and Northern Ireland for the 'Laying Foundations for Change' book and website.
The Sonic Arts Research Centre (S.A.R.C.) based in Queens University Belfast is world renowned in its field, with practitioners travelling from all around the world to study and conduct research.
After visiting and researching the centre, and being wary of repeating Martin Parr's photos of the same location, I decided to create a series of environmental portraits of staff and students. The intention of these portraits is to give an impression of the range of activities the practitioners are involved in as well as a sense of how strange and wonderful much of it seems.
